kyklosgalaktikos: I was wondering If I have a good chance of being pregnant if I had unprotected sex (no ejaculation) a day before my period started (august 24th). After the sex I bled slightly (it wasnt spotting) so I took NChoice. The problem is that an hour later I binged & another hour later I purged (Im bulimic) so did I just waste a NChoice & could I be pregnant? My period was pretty heavy midway. I have a regular period cycle & I ovulate on the 8th-12th days so I'm safe right?

    Hi kyklosgalaktikos,

A pregnancy can occur anytime sperm are deposited directly onto the vaginal opening or inside of the vagina. In some males their pre-ejaculate contains sperm, or if a male has ejacualted, not urinated and then becomes erect and secretes the pre-ejaculate may contain sperm, so in these cases even though there wasn’t a full ejaculation there is a chance for pregnancy.

While you may usually ovulate around the days you stated, ovulation can occur sometimes for some females at any time throughout their cycle. Not to mention, it can take up to two weeks after sex for an egg to become fertilized and then implant in the lining of the uterus and a pregnancy to occur.

Taking emergency contraception would have helped to prevent pregnancy, however, you may have vomited the pill up which would make it ineffective.

There is a risk for pregnancy and the transmission of STDs from the situation you described. In order for a pregnancy test to be accurate you will have to wait until the day before your next period is due, or if it is late, to take a pregnancy test. You can either take one at home or in a local clinic. You can find free or low-cost and confidential clinics near you here. You may also want to visit a clinic to be tested for STDs.

You mention that you are bulimic, you also may want to check out Something Fishy. They are an eating disorder website that offers access to a hotline, information on eating disorders and treatment options.

    I hope this helps.
