Ovulation generally occurs during the middle of the menstrual cycle. Because every female’s menstrual cycle it different when someone ovulates can be different.

However, there are a few methods of birth control that are referred to as fertility awareness methods. These methods require that a female charts her menstrual cycle (in differing ways) in order to figure out roughly when she is ovulating. On days where pregnancy is likely to occur if she were to engage in penile-vaginal intercourse, she and her partner abstain from that behavior.
